Network AuditThe security of a network has two primary principles; secure from attack and secure from disaster. A Network or IT Audit can expose any threats and provide adequate and reasonable protection for those threats. Given the fact that every organization now relies heavily on technology, the need to secure that technology is critical to the successful operation of the organization. Many laws and regulations require compliance as a requisite for organizations. Depending on the industry, there is a regulatory agency that has regulations and hefty fines to include monetary and imprisonment of Principal owners of organizations not in compliance. Beyond the legal repercussions of non-compliance, let's not forget the moral and ethical responsibilities of organizations to be concerned with Information Security. Is your organization doing all it can to secure and protect your client's personal information in which they have entrusted you with? The legal implications of non-compliance to various regulatory agencies in regards to Information Security are significant and severe. They include, but are not limited to hefty fines, prison time for principal owners, and the possible closure of the organization in sever cases of gross negligence. Many business owners are either oblivious to what is either required of them to secure their networks or the repercussions of being hacked while not in compliance. Unfortunately for these business owners, the law is not empathetic to ignorance. Organizations are required to know what regulations are applicable to them and to take reasonable measures to ensure compliance. The most commonly overlooked need for Information Security is one of a moral and ethical nature. Why? Well, you do not go to jail or have to pay fines for being immoral; although you might be sued in a private lawsuit. When customers give up their private information, they do so with trust. They are trusting that your organization has taken and is taking the necessary precautions to protect their personal information. Not an unreasonable assumption on their part, but if they when what ITs do, they would be terrified. Why? Simple, most small businesses do not have a clue as to what it takes to secure that data, nor have they hired a professional to make sure they are reasonable safe and secure. A Professional Network Audit or IT Audit can identify security holes, user activities and other security risks so they can be dealt with proactively and a prevent a security breach.
